Brent Symphony Orchestra
Group for past and present members and affiliates of the Brent Symphony Orchestra.
We rehearse on Wednesday evenings, 19:30 to 21:30 at St James Church, Sheriff Rd, West Hampstead, NW6 2AP and give 3 concerts a year.
Strings are always welcome (subject to an initial trial period). There are no formal auditions, although players need to be at least Grade 8 standard with good sight-reading skills. In order to achieve a balanced orchestra, we rotate violins between 1sts and 2nds and within the sections, therefore players should be confident playing either part. Please come along to a rehearsal or get in touch...

Paddington Academy Residents Group
This is a residents action group to co-ordinate contributions to the debate on the replacement of NWCS with the new Paddington Academy. All residents of Maida Vale with this agenda are welcome to join. Formerly known as PAAG, this is a reformed group dealing solely with trying to get a school that works with our neighbourhood.
It will come as no surprise to you that WCC granted Planning Permission for both the Paddington Academy on Marylands Road and the Westminster Academy on Harrow Road. Over the next year, the Paddington Academy developers will be asking for permission for several other elements of the plan - details on fencing, the hours and type of community use and, probably, the return of the hideous coloured glass panels! We will keep you posted on these but in the meantime, the bad news is that the two/three year construction period started at Christmas.
The temporary classrooms are now being installed and work demolishing the nusrey and playcentre will start soon. Parking restrictions are scheduled to start for Marylands and Thorngate on the 24th of January.
If you are having any problems, contact numbers for Gleesons have been changed. The new project manager is
Ivor Allcock
Project Manager
Site Tel No: 0207 289 4698 (office hours)
email: iallcock@mjgleeson.com
The construction manager is Chris Field (no contact number).
The overall boss is Alan Bollen, Contracts Manager and he can be reached at 0208 644 4321 or on his mobile 07717335698.
The meetings of the construction liason group can be accessed at http://www.ult.org.uk/paddington.htm.
If you have any issues, please post messages here and the 3 residents members will be accessing the information. Alternatively email Carrie the moderator directly and she will forward them on.
ALERT: You have until the 31st of MARCH to object to their proposals for addressing transport/the temporary classrooms/bins on Marylands. PARG pro forma objection letters are in the FILES section.

Freegle groups allow you to give things you no longer need to people who want them. The best part is that people come and collect them from you. It means you don't have to go to the tip and it also means that the stuff doesn't go to landfill. You can also put wanted requests on there. The Westminster Freegle group covers the following areas: West Kilburn, Maida Vale, Bayswater,Paddington, Lisson Grove, Mayfair, Belgravia, Knightsbridge, Victoria, Pimlico St James's Park and Soho.
