How do local people want to develop one of Bristol’s most diverse, vibrant and deprived wards? Local people volunteering to engage residents in an innovative and dynamic consultation project Legislation introduced in April 2009 calls on local authorities and developers to involve local people in decisions that affect them. Local residents and architects have taken the initiative to find out what their community wants during a month-long intensive consultation this October. The aim is to create a shared vision for Easton’s future which will then be developed into a strategic, community-led regeneration document that reflects local people’s aspirations. An urban regeneration document which clearly sets out residents’ visions will not only give the community more power at the planning stage but will also be invaluable for developers and the local authority. Producing a well-researched and relevant regeneration document will make the community’s wishes clear. Whilst we cannot guarantee that the document will be adopted fully, it should be invaluable in supporting the local authority’s obligation to consult. The Love Easton Urban Design Task Group will be opening a Community Cafe, holding a street party, music events, consultation events and much, much more... The Love Easton Community Cafe will open as a consultation ‘Hub’ on 3rd October 2009 5 Stapleton Rd, Easton, Bristol, BS5 0QR For more info visit www.LoveEaston.com youtube link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXHwlEodBiU Why are we doing this? Easton is one of Bristol’s most deprived, yet vibrant, wards. Its proximity to the city centre, and its relatively cheap land prices make it attractive to developers. The Easton Planning Group is an open voluntary collection of residents who meet with planners and developers once a month to give feedback on proposed developments. However, the members of this group realised that they could not truly represent the views and wishes of all the residents of Easton. Therefore, in February 2009, they set up the Love Easton Urban Design Task Group, which aims to find out and consolidate the community’s feelings on how the area should be developed. This information will then be presented in a strategic and community-led regeneration document.

The group’s repertoire is an eclectic mix of global styles, ranging from Gospel, Eastern European and African, to contemporary western pieces. As part of our inclusive ethos, there are no auditions for places and no requirement to read music. Our songs, usually in three and four part harmony, are learnt by ear – in the same way that songs and stories have been passed from generation to generation for many centuries around the world. New members are able to join at the beginning of each term and rehearsals are weekly. We currently meet at Redland Park Church on Whiteladies Road on Tuesdays between 7pm and 9pm.

We are a group of concerned parents who live in Long Ashton, Bristol. Our two local schools are oversubscribed, and the only solution is for our four-year olds to catch taxis to schools further afield. We're lobbying for more school places in the village. We hope our blog will act as a source to inform everyone about our progress. We also hope you will join this online social group, so others can see the support for this cause.

The worldwide Freecycle Network is made up of individual groups across the globe. It's a grassroots movement of people who are giving stuff for free. Each group is run by local volunteer moderators. Membership is free. One rule: everything posted must be free. Whether it's a chair, a fax machine, piano, toys or an old door. Or, maybe you're looking to acquire something yourself? Respond to the posting directly and you just might get it. After that it is up to the giver to set up a time for passing on the treasure.

The Respect coalition was founded from the anti-war movement when 2 million people marched on the streets in 2003 and there was no-one to represent them politically. We are now the only viable left alternative to New Labour's march to the right. We aim to represent the working class majority and push forward an agenda that will benefit the many not just the wealthy. We stand for Respect, Equality, Socialism, Peace, Environment, Community and Trade Unionism. The Respect Coalition in Bristol is involved in many local campaigns including Stop the War, Unite aganst Fascism, Love Music Hate Racism, anti-privatisation of the NHS schools or other public services, Defending Assylum Seekers and Student campaigns. www.respectcoalition.org
